TIRANA, June 17 – The Chamber of Advocates has announced an indefinite boycott if their proposals regarding the new court map are not met.
There are 4 days that lawyers across Albania boycotted court hearings in opposition to the dissolution of a number of courts by the High Judicial Council (HJC) a few days ago.
The Chamber of Advocates stressed in a statement released after the meeting of the Steering Committee of the Albanian Bar Association on Friday that the HJC ignored their proposals on the new court map, while calling on the government to accept their proposals.
According to the statement, the Chamber of Advocates has presented the problems of the practical implementation of such a project since the beginning of the drafting of the Judicial Map and it was evidenced regretfully the failure to take into consideration the proposals.
“We stand by our assessment that this court map is in complete violation of the individual’s right of access to justice, the inefficiency in the realization of the right to judicial defense and the aggravation of the socio-economic situation of the individual,” said the Chamber.
The Albanian Chamber of Advocates requests the government to take into account its remarks and proposals.
“The failure to take into account the remarks and proposals of the Albanian Bar Association in the decision-making process by the government will be the object of assessing the position of the Bar Association, escalating our future stance towards a total and indefinite boycott,” concluded the statement. /Argumentum.al
