TIRANA, June 3 – Democratic Party (DP) led by former PM Sali Berisha has denounced the candicay of Major General Bajram Begaj for the post of Albania’s new head of state.
Socialist Party (SP) parliamentary group picked up the chief of General Staff of the army, Begaj as their presidential candidate on Friday.
But the member of the National Council of the Democratic Party, Genc Pollo said in a post on social media on Friday that Begaj can not be President of the Republic as he has moral and criminal responsibility for the looting of naval bases of the army.
“B. Begaj has direct moral, civil and criminal responsibilities for the looting of the naval bases of the Armed Forces! He can not be President of the Republic !!! Nor Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces !!!” said Shehu in his comment on the Socialist presidential candidate.
In the meantime the DP deputies will vote against the Socialist candidate for President.
In a statement to the media outside the DP headquarters on Friday while the votes for the election of the leading structures of the Democratic Party were being counted, the senior Democrat official and MP, Edi Paloka said that the deputies of the Democratic parliamentary group will be in the Assembly on Saturday. “Tomorrow our deputies will be in the hall to vote against Rama’s candidate,” said Paloka. /Argumentum.al
