TIRANA, June 2 – Former director of Albanian Radio Television (RTSH) Thoma Gëllçi has been sentenced by the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) to 1 year and 4 months in prison due to an abuse of the tender for RTSH Agro.
The GJKKO also sentenced 3 subordinates of Thoma Gëllçi, Julian Tapinë, Ervin Murjan and Alban Malaveci to 1 year in prison each.
GJKKO has deprived Thoma Gëllçi of the right to exercise public functions for 5 years.
A tender in the Albanian Radio Television signed in November 2018 for ‘RTSH Agro’, led to the handcuffing of the former director of RTSH, Thoma Gëllçi and 3 officials of this television.
The authority for serious crimes prosecution, SPAK made their arrest. It is about the tender for the purchase of equipment for the RTSH Agro channel with a value of 86, 908, 550 leks (excluding VAT), approximately 1 million dollars with VAT.
RTSH officials were arrested at the beginning of October last year after the denunciation made by the companies disqualified in the tender.
