TIRANA, June 16 – Albania and the EU are making efforts to accommodate 7 million Ukrainians, declared the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, before the open debate in the UN Security Council on the cooperation between the United Nations, the EU and regional and sub-regional organizations on Thursday.
Xhaçka stressed that “in the face of current ongoing challenges, the UN and the EU will need to strengthen their cooperation in the service of a common agenda.”
“We commend the extraordinary efforts made by some EU member states and others, including mine, to shelter some 7 million Ukrainians forcibly displaced by the war,” Xhacka said.
She said an appeal was being made to the Russian Federation to stop the war, withdraw its troops and get involved in the negotiations. “This is the only way to deal with issues and complaints, and the only way to alleviate the acute global food security situation for which, it should be clear, Russia is solely and solely responsible.”
Xhaçka said that “as a candidate country for the European Union, Albania expects a realistic, objective, timely and credible approach to the EU enlargement towards the Western Balkans.”
Further she said Albania is looking forward to an accelerated process of dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, with the assistance of the EU, which should lead to mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia as soon as possible. /Argumentum.al
