TIRANA, June 1 – Homage was paid in honor of the former Albanian President, Bujar Nishani in the “Skënderbeu” hall in the Presidency on Tuesday.
Nishani, 56, passed away on May 28, while he had been hospitalized for weeks in a serious health condition in a hospital in Germany.
Many politicians, friends, relatives and citizens paid homage in honor of former President.
Nishani was taken to Germany for treatment after suffering from bilateral pneumonia with respiratory insufficiency as a result of complications caused by COVID-19.
After the homage, President Ilir Meta said that “I expressed my deepest condolences to his wife Odeta, children Ersit and Fiona, as well as all their family members for this painful and very premature separation from the life of former President Nishani”. Also the chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha paid homage in honor of the former President of the Republic, Bujar Nishani.
“The state lost one of the most dignified statesmen in its entire history. Albanian society and Albanians lost one of their most dedicated servants,” Berisha said. Official homage according to the ceremonial and state protocol will take place on Wednesday at 10: 00-12.00. After 12.00, the coffin with the body of President Nishani will leave for the Sharra cemetery, where the funeral ceremony will take place.
