TIRANA, June 11 – The High Judicial Council (HJC) has approved the new court map, which provides that Albania will have 13 courts out of 22 that were before, while out of six administrative courts of first instance two ones will remain, one in Tirana, country’s capital, and another in Lushnja, a town in southern Albania.
A press release of the HJC stressed on Saturday that the adoption of the act of the “New Judicial Map” marks the conclusion of a 3-year work of the Inter-Institutional Working Group, which has been intensively supported and assisted by Council of Europe experts.
According to the HJC, the proposal on the “New Judicial Map” was drafted based on the best international standards.
“The proposal on the reorganization of judicial districts creates an innovative approach that increases the efficiency of the judicial system for citizens, realizes the fair distribution of workload between courts and judges and promotes specialization, thereby reducing the time required to consider a case in a more qualitative judicial way,” said the announcement.
The HJC decided to reorganize the courts of appeal of general jurisdiction, from 6 courts of appeal, to a Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, which is organized and operates throughout the territory of the Republic of Albania, with headquarters in the city of Tirana.
The approval of this act by the HJC with an evaluative nature of the current organization and territorial competencies of the courts paves the way for the process of obtaining an opinion from the High Prosecution Council, the General Prosecutor and the Minister of Finance. /Argumentum.al
