TIRANA, June 21 – The Head of State said in a press conference focused on the administration of Butrint that the responsibility of Cultural Heritage of Albania cannot be transferred to NGOs, but the responsibility remains of the State.
Meta turned back a law on the administration of Butrint to Parliament for revision on Monday.
“For the state to relinquish any responsibility and to authorize a dedicated foundation where the state has a form and position that cannot guarantee the dictating and controlling role according to responsibility… if it will apply this new form it must maintain its dominant position in an unconditional way and have the right of veto to protect the public interest,” said Meta.
Further he noted that he is not against forms of state-private cooperation, especially when it comes to the Albanian-American Development Foundation.
President Meta was asked by journalists about the lawsuit of former MP Halit Valteri filed with the prosecution authority of serious crimes, SPAK and the accusations leveled against him for lobbying.
Meta said that was absurd news like the characters themselves as he warned that the whole system will be “shaken” starting from July 25, a day after he ends his presidential mandate and takes the helm of the opposition Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI).
“This absurd news like the characters you all know does not create any distraction in the tasks that the president has but also from the commitments of Mr. Meta starting from July 25,” said the outgoing president.
