TIRANA, June 26 – The experts of the Public Health Institute (PHI) have said that the infection curve will continue to increase again as over 1600 positive cases of Covid are registered in the country.
According to specialists, this is mainly influenced by the number of tourists who continue to come to Albania and the tendency of their number is increasing. However, according to PHI experts, there is no room for panic as it is not a new wave of infections.
The epidemiologist, Artan Simaku said on Sunday that there is currently a slight increase, and this increase has been predicted, but not in the form of a ‘wave’.
“It is a slight increase with fluctuations because the influx of tourists who are expected to come and go are from countries with high vaccination rates,” he said. According to him, most of the infected cases are aged 25-54 and they are unvaccinated.
“Most of the cases are active young age groups of 25-54 years old compared to the 60 older age groups. The first group has a low vaccination rate while the old people are generally vaccinated. All persons who were infected have been unvaccinated. Only a sporadic number have been vaccinated and mostly with one dose,” said Simaku.
The main barometer measuring the pandemic are hospitalizations which continue to be in very low numbers in Albania while only 9 patients continue to receive hospital treatment.
Figures provided by the Institute show that the number of people hit by the virus is reaching the figure of 300 patients per day, the highest quota since the beginning of April.
