TIRANA, June 20 – President Ilir Meta has returned for review to the Assembly the agreement on the administration of Butrint Park, southern Albania.
According to Meta, that agreement violates concrete provisions of the Constitution and the constitutional principles of the rule of law. In the reasoning of the Head of State, it is stated that the procedure followed did not guarantee a wide and in-depth process of public consultation, and the opinion of the independent local expertise was not provided.
Among other things, it is noted that due to the lack of comprehensive consultation, this law is the product of a process that has violated the Resolution of 19 May 2022, adopted by the European Parliament.
A few days ago, the Assembly approved with 75 votes in favor the law on the administration of Butrint Park by the Albanian-American Development Foundation for the next 10 years.
Civil society groups have also opposed the transfer of Butrint Park to the management of the Albanian-American Development Foundation.
