TIRANA, June 14 – The Prime Ministers of Albania and Montenegro, Edi Rama and Dritan Abazovic, respectively, left for a visit to Kiev, Ukraine, on Tuesday.
Rama and Abazovic have been invited to visit Kiev by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. The visit to Kiev was announced on Monday by the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazovic.
In a post on social media, Rama said: “For Kiev at the invitation of President Zelensky.” He published the announcement together with two photos of the moment of boarding the plane. It’s not known if they are leaving from Tirana or Podgorica.
Abazovic said earlier that he had launched the idea of a joint visit to Kiev by Western Balkan prime ministers, particularly from NATO countries in the region, in order to send a stronger and unique message of support from the Western Balkans to sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine.
But it is not clear why leaders of other countries like those of North Macedonia and Kosovo have not responded positively to the invitation.
It is clear that Serbia cannot be part of such a mission because of its ‘fraternal’ relations with Russia.
