The chairman of the parliamentary group of the ruling Socialist Party (SP), Taulant Balla stated on Wednesday that President Ilir Meta has proposed the date of March 6 this year for the holding of partial elections in the municipalities that have been left without mayors
In a statement to the media after the meeting, Balla stressed that “we were invited by the president today for a consultative meeting regarding vacancies for a long time in many municipalities of the country. I told the president that this institution should have exercised this legal obligation from the first announcement for the creation of vacancies starting with the first one created in August 2019 in the municipality of Shkodra.”
According to Balla, respect for the constitution is an obligation of all institutions. “Elections should have taken place within the 45-day deadline. And for us there is no date. The date is determined by law and the constitution. The president also informed us about the institutions responsible for the administration of elections. The president thinks that the elections should take place on March 6,” said Balla.
The head of SP parliamentary group said they will respect the constitution by not opposing the date proposed by Meta while adding that the head of state has realized that he has violated the constitution. / Argumentum.al
