REAL POLITIK NO. 92
22 JULY – 19 AUGUST 2025
Comments “ flash” on 4 major diplomatic events, only in 1.000 words by the well-known analyst, Grand Master in Diplomacy,
DR. JORGJI KOTE
1.Alaska, a bell toll for Europe!
This was affirmed by most renowned politologes and diplomats after the Summit held in Alaska on 15 August between President Trump and Putin. With sounding titles in the foreign press and media: black Friday, useless summit, no del, no ceacefire, a victory for Putin, Europe disappointed and such alike!
However, the Europeans, the gretaest losers of Alaska did the utmost to compensate their physical absence in that Summit through maximum pressure over Trump. Apart from the Videocall on 13/17 August, Europe adopted the well-known Five Point Package. Then, on 18 August, the seven European and NATO “ big shots” together with President Zelenskyj attended the historic Summit in the White House; there, united more than ever before the Russian threat, they showed that they are not sideliners but major actors, particularly in reaching genuine peace in Ukraine.
The greatest winner of this political game is the Russian President Putin. His historic achievement in Alaska was that he broke with the western international isolation, as his first visit in USA since 2010. And there he was treated on equal footing, welcomed with red carpet and with applauds by Trump himself, as if he was the liberator and not Ukraine’s aggressor! Another success for Putin was that the Summit took place in a former Russian territory with strong spiritual and religious bonds.

Above all, Putin went to Alaska with a pozitive balance sheet in the frontline. He does not care for human loses, since Rusdsa can recruit 200.000 soldiers annually, an enviable figure for NATO Member States!!
At this point, let us emphasize that YES, Russia wants more and more territory and as soon as possible! Putin has declared long ago that the collapse of Soviet Union in 1990 was the most serious geopolitical disaster and that he is determined to re-establish it. The same message was given by Foreign Minister Lavrov who appeared in Anchorage with a t-shirt under the coat beraring the intiails CCCP, i.e. Soviet Union!
This is why the European leaders interrupted their summer vacations, they are sumoning their cabinets and are in intensive communication with one another, as they did on 17 August, a day before they accompanied President Zelenski in Washington. They are determined to intensify the major military reforms to defy the threats posed to them and to protect peace, stability, security and the fundamental European values and principles.
2. No trade partners but adversaries appear to be the USA and the EU in the economic area. Unlike months ago, when they behaved as traditional allies and partners, sharing Euro-Atlantic values, principles and interests. President Trump is applying the new transactionalist doctrine, fetishing commercial profits. It does not matter if a country is democratic or dictatorial. What it counts for him is America First becoming great again through profits and economic gains. True, trade conflicts among them have been even before, especially for steels, textiles and farm products; but they have solved them through talks, the spirit of trust, understanding and various economic measures of mutual benefit, eaving custom tarrifs in the end. Not like today, when the USA are weaponizing the tariffs against all countries, without any distinction. Nevertheless, let us be happy that this problem for the time being is over. The critical notes for the EU for this deal are correct, but in concrete terms, the EU Commission had no other alternative, given also the US necessary support for Ukraine.

3. Palestina and the two states solution appears as Is the primary point in the geopolitical agenda, especially following the French President’s statement on the recognition of the State of Palestine during the upcoming UN General Assembly in september in New York. Despite critical remakrs from the US, Israel and the Hebrew community in France and elsewhere, Macron’s statement has had a wide-reaching echo and success. Thus, instantly after France, the UK, Canada, Portugal and other states have confirtmed to recognize Palestine in September in New York.; As we have also argued in other articles also here at ARGUMENTUM, without putting on board the Palestinian Authority, without recognizing it as a state, in the context of the two states solution, there can be no genuine ceacefire and even less sustainable peace in Middle East. Certainly, this is only the first symbolic act due to be followed with the disarmamzent of Hamas and deprivation of its power, the reform of the Palestianian Authority, so that it would be capable of managening Gaza Strip as well. This idea and goal is finding growing support wsorldwide, including the USA.

Actually, as the UN Secretary General, Mr; Guterres said some time ago, “ the two states solution seems far off, yet, there is no other alternative for true peace in Middle East”
4. When Pristina drowns in a spoonful of water!” This aphorism suits to the situation in Kosoo, where even after 53 summer parliamentary voting endeavours to elect its Speaker have failed. Accordingly, 6 months after the end of parliamentary elections, there is no assembly consdtituted and no new government in view. Giving in this way an extremely negative public international percveoption and image. Now they are spending in vain time and energies with judiciary processes, although in a democratic state, the different institutional crises and conflicts are ressolved by political parties. But this requires the implementation of some basic democratic practices – genuone dialogue with opposition, concessions, tolerance, flexibility, mutual trust and understanding. It is inconceivable why should the government persist as a bad mule in its single candidacy! In this case, the opposition had its own right to reject it, for it is not a mere governmental notary. Well, if it would oppose two or three candidates, then it is its blame!

Moreover, under these circumstances, when Pristina seems to “drown in a spoonful of water” it sounds hypocritical and a “ luxury” to demand membership to the Council of Europe and NATO or even lift the EU sanctions. Because the Council of Europe, the EU and NATO are not cafeterias for talks but political and institutional clubs of values and principles where an applicant country like Kosovo should comply with them in full. Unfortunately, Pristina is far away in these aspects. And this bodes bad for its future.
