TIRANA, July 18 – The Conference of Chairmen turned down the two demands of the opposition; that for interpellation and motion with debate with Prime Minister Edi Rama about the affair of incinerators on Tuesday.
The head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, described the decision-making of the majority in the Conference of Chairmen as a violation of the constitutional right of the opposition.
“No matter how much embarrassment and trouble (PM) Edi Rama has on this issue, the Constitution and regulations must be respected to show the vision that the parliament protect the interests of Albanian citizens and has not transformed into a store that protects the interests of Klodian Zoto and Mirel Mërtiri,” said Bardhi.
Deputy chairman of the Socialist parliamentary group Toni Gogu argued the vote against with the fact that the content of the two demands of the opposition has no urgency for Thursday’s session.
“The Assembly will decide on Thursday whether those issues will be included in the agenda or not. We strongly believe that there is no content there. Now is the moment of justice for that matter. I think the emergency is pensions, students, medical service,” Gogu said.
After the rejection of two demands of the opposition, Thursday’s plenary session is also expected to bring strong clashes in the Assembly.
The Democrats have warned that they will not allow the normal continuation of the parliamentary deliberations without first the Prime Minister, Rama giving explanations to deputies regarding the issue of incinerators. A week ago the Assembly decided to remove the immunity of the former Deputy Prime Minister, Arben Ahmetaj. /argumentum.al
