TIRANA – The impact of the spread of COVID19 has caused alarm in Albania where the health system is showing signs of being overloaded following the confirmation of 108 new infected persons on Wednesday.
Reporting on this Mirela Cami, Director of Health Care Services Operator, announced that two fatalities, a 68-year-old woman from Shijaku, who was hospitalized at Infective, and a 60-year-old woman from Tirana, hospitalized at “Shefqet Ndroqi”, were registered during the last 24 hours.
“The situation in the two Covid hospitals continues to be worrying, where 125 patients are currently being treated, and 17 are in intensive care and 7 patients are intubated,” she said.
“At the outset of this address every citizen is called upon to wear masks indoors, to maintain distance in every environment and personal and collective hygiene to curb the spread of COVID19,” Cami said. “In the last 24 hours, 502 tests were performed to suspect COVID19, of which 108 positive cases were confirmed.”
The geographical distribution of cases is as follows: 52 cases in Tirana, 12 in Kruja, 7 in Kukes, 6 in Fier, 5 in Mirdita, 4 in Tropoja, 3 cases in Vlora, Kamza, Permet, 2 cases in Elbasan, Tepelena , Memaliaj, 1 case in Kurbin, Korca, Lezha, Has, Berat, Pogradec, and Prrenjas,
In the meantime, Cami said 41 citizens had recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of recovered people to 2830 since the outbreak of the epidemic. /argumentum.al
