TIRANA – Three more fatalities were announced on Thursday bringing the total number of deaths to 104 since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Albania.
In its daily announcement the Institute of Public Health (ISHP) said 425 tests were performed of which 99 positive cases were confirmed during the last 24 hours.
The situation at Infectious Diseases Hospital remains serious as hospitalizations are on the rise, said ISHP’s medical bulletin.”In the last 24 hours the number of patients in need of hospital treatment has increased. 102 patients are in medical treatment in the two hospitals, the Infectious Diseases Hospital and the “Shefqet Ndroqi” Hospital, 11 patients are in intensive therapy and 3 of them are intubated.”
The total number of C19 cases has grown to 3,851 while the number of patients who have recovered stands at 2,137 adding 46 citizens declared safe in the last 24 hours.
In the meantime details of the daily statistics show that the average age of lives lost by COVID -19 is going down as coronavirus is spreading at a rapid pace, affecting younger ages in Albania.
According to official data on death statistics from the Ministry of Health, compiled by Monitor, on July 15 (with 101 lives lost) the average age reached 67.8 years, from 71.2 years in the second week of April (April 12 , with 23 lives lost).
Starting from the second month of the pandemic until now the average age of deaths from Coronavirus has decreased by 3.4 years. From the beginning of July to the beginning of June the average age of deaths has decreased by 1.3 years.
In the meantime one day after the adoption of the normative act by the government which makes mandatory the wearing of facemasks in closed environments and stipulates a fine worth 2,000 lek for violators, PM Edi Rama appeared with a facemask on his face in Parliament in Thursday’s plenary session.
He took the opportunity to draw the attention of some deputies who had not worn facemasks telling them to put them on. /argumentum.al
