TIRANA – After almost three months since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in Albania (March 9, 2020), the daily progress of the disease seems to be constant with two-digit number of new cases infected by COVID – 19 reviewing the official data provided by health bodies of this Balkan country.
So on June 8 (Monday) the Institute of Public Health (ISHP) announced that 17 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of infected people to 1263 at a time when all preventive measures of the infection have been lifted.
It is to be noted that there is a presence of health personnel being infected with 3 more on Saturday in the northern city of Shkodra where the situation is considered critical in the main health polyclinic.
Eight of the new cases are reported in Tirana, six in Shkodra and three in Kamza, said ISHP expert Eugena Tomini on Monday. “The number of hospitalized patients has also increased from 30 to 34, but the number of those in intensive care and intubation remains unchanged, respectively 6 and 2,” she said.
The confirmed cases are contacts of previous positive cases and some new cases in Tirana and Shkodra are under investigation.
In the last 24 hours, 19 health personnel have been tested and 3 of them resulted positive, while 1 staff member is among the 7 recovered. The total number of recovered patients from coronavirus has mounted to 945, according to Tomini. /argumentum.al
