TIRANA –Tuesday, 9th of June, which marks three months since the formal outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic in Albania on 9th of March this year, registered the highest number of coronavirus cases with 36 new infected people confirmed, according to Silva Bino of the Institute of Public Health (ISHP).
Bino said that 27 cases were detected in Tirana, 4 in Shkodra, 2 in Kamza, 1 case in Durres, 1 in Lushnja and 1 in Lezha bringing the total number of coronavirus cases to 1299 since the outbreak of the disease.
In her daily update of the situation the ISHP’s specialist confirmed that situation was not so unexpected due to the mass gatherings that have taken place in recent days, and also by the disregard for advice on social distancing, wearing masks, and other elements of personal care.
Another concern unveiled by her is that fact there is an increase of the number of cases being treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Tirana. 41 cases are being treated there, 6 of which are in intensive care and 2 in intubation, according to her.
“All this shows that Covid-19 has not lost its strength, it is not a disease that goes away easily. This requires us to be responsible throughout these months so as not to lose what we achieved with so much effort,” Bino said.
In the meantime, she announced that 15 citizens recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing to 960 the number of those cured since the outbreak of the pandemic. “Currently, there are 305 active people with COVID – 19 in Albania, mainly in Tirana, Shkodra, Kruja and Kamza,” said Bino.
Even PM Edi Rama said on a local TV on Monday evening that there was reason to be concerned about the last days’ growth of the new cases. He warned that if the situation gets worse, then restrictions measures could be reconsidered. /argumentum.al
