TIRANA – “We want a strong EU with an important role in foreign policy and an ambitious budget,” said Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz at a joint press conference after meeting with his German counterpart Heiko Maas in Warsaw on Tuesday.
“We discussed the European recovery fund, and a way to constructively and cooperatively manage the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union,” Czaputowicz told reporters at the press conference.
He also said that Germany’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU, which is due to commence on July 1, would be “a challenging period.”
Czaputowicz mentioned the enlargement of the European Union, its engagement with the Western Balkans countries, relations with its eastern neighbors under the Eastern Partnership as well as the bloc’s relations with Russia.
In the meantime German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas touched upon the US presence in Germany during the joint press conference saying that he has not received any detailed information from the United States about troop withdrawals.
US President Donald Trump has ordered the Pentagon to cut the number of US troops stationed in Germany, a senior US official said earlier in June.
“We think that the US presence in Germany is important for the security not just of Germany but also for the security of the United States and especially for the security of Europe,” Maas said during the visit to Poland a day after Trump’s announcement. (Compiled from wires)/argumentum.al
