Some 4 fatalities and 119 new infected people is Tuesday’s balance sheet of the impact of coronavirus infection in Albania which is passing through the hardest times of the blow of the epidemic since its outbreak on March 9 this year.
In its announcement on Tuesday the local health authorities did not hide the worry that there is a growth of the number of the people who need hospital treatment.
“There are new hospitalizations with aggravated symptoms as a result of Covid19, and new positive cases identified by epidemiologists in the field. Despite medical treatment, there is an increase of hospitalizations at COVID hospitals. Currently, 125 patients are being treated at two COVID hospitals – the Infectious Diseases Hospital and the “Shefqet Ndroqi” Hospital, 20 in intensive care and 4 patients are intubated,” said the daily medical bulletin of the Health Ministry.
Among other things, the Ministry repeats the appeal to citizens to wear masks indoors, to avoid mass gatherings, ceremonies of any kind, as they are a source of the spread of the infection.
The map of the geographical distribution of the infectious cases ranks Tirana on top with 69 new cases, remaining the most dangerous hotspot of the disease.
In the meantime Prime Minister Edi Rama was stunned at the protest held in Tirana on Tuesday against the government decision to keep closed nightclubs and discos and ban loud music after 20.00 o’clock at a moment when the coronavirus pandemic is spreading in Albania.
In a comment on social media, Rama said that it is unimaginable that there are people who raise their voice after the Health Ministry tightened measures for businesses that were not allowed to open in the conditions of the pandemic.
According to Rama, the opening of these businesses has not been allowed any day since the reopening on June 1st. His full comment follows: “It is unimaginable that there are people who raise their voices why the Ministry of Health has tightened the measure for nightclubs and discos. Their opening has not been allowed any day after the grand reopening! May God protect them and their families from them and protect others from these minds! ”Rama said.
But the senior official of the opposition Democratic Party (DP), Tritan Shehu rejected the decision saying on social media on Tuesday that Albania is in this situation not because of the opening but due to the failure of Rama.
“Someone in the ‘Committee’ (of the experts) should take the courage and explain to him that ‘closing’ does not save Albania, on the contrary intelligent measures like testing and its liberalization and intensive engagement of the family doctors do,” said Shehu, a former Health Minister. /argumentum.al
