TIRANA, August 14 – The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who is in Taranto, Italy, met with the head of the Municipality, Rinaldo Melucci, with whom they signed a document of understanding that will lead the two cities to a twinning agreement.
Tirana is a developing city having within it the desire for a new beginning, something that citizens also have in Taranto, said Mayor Melucci on Sunday as quoted by local media.
According to him, there are many things in common and the goal is that these ties between Puglia and Albania will be strengthened even further.
For his part the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that the fact that thousands of Albanians live in Puglia and vice versa and that over 25,000 Italians have also come to the Albanian capital, makes the two cities quite connected.
Veliaj announced that there are 25,000 Italians who work and live with Albanians.. “During 30 years we have made great strides. We were almost the North Korea of Europe and now we are a developing nation and this is also with the support of friendly countries, such as Italy, because it is a completely different thing to have neighbors who attack you,” said Veliaj.
He added that the agreement that was signed on Sunday and the twinning proves that humanity is the most important bond of all.
