TIRANA – Capital’s Mayor Erion Veliaj was harsh on President Ilir Meta’s warning against the demolition of the National Theater telling him that he is not a headman on Saturday.
Earlier on the day Meta considered any action or decision to violate the building of the National Theater something beyond any logic of the functioning of the rule of law in Albania and would criminally violate the constitutional order calling on the government and Municipality of Tirana to discontinue any further action that violates the building complex of the National Theater.
Government made a decision on May 8 to transfer the ownership of the site where the National Theater sits on to the Municipality.
Mayor Veliaj responded to President Meta in a tit-for-tat reaction while informing journalists on two investments for the new water transmission line as well as another on the treatment of potable water in Bovilla.
“I tell the President to stay with the Constitution, abide by the duty provided to him by the Constitution; you are not e communal headman, you have no reason to deal with Astir. Both the PM and the Mayor will keep the promise as we have not withdrawn from any projects,” the Mayor said. In the meantime, he asked those who oppose the demolition of the National Theater to leave humiliated as they let Astir.
Further on Veliaj said that the lack of the Constitutional Court is linked with the Theater like the connection of the Democratic Party with democracy. Veliaj made fun of the veteran DP leader Sali Berisha calling him ‘Old Man Mere’ (a character in an Albanian movie) and DP head Lulzim Basha calling him a sleeping boy.
“The President has one choice: side with Robert Ndrenika, who has gone himself on theater’s stage or side with Lul Basha who is searching a successive stage, a successive theater, for winning the successive trophy,” said Veliaj.
Earlier Tirana Mayor called those who oppose the demolition of the theater as “the hysterics” of a “noisy minority”. /argumentum.al
