TIRANA, May 29 – Tiranathlon, the sporting event that combines the three most popular and practiced disciplines in a single competition: swimming, cycling and running, marked its second edition in Tirana on Sunday.
Hundreds of local and foreign athletes, who competed for 3 prizes in each of the disciplines, started the race from Farka Lake Park at 08:00 in the morning to close at 12:00, right where it all started.
The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said at the award ceremony for the winners of the trio that Tirana is becoming an example of organizing events of European proportions. He went that far saying that Tirana City Hall is capable of organizing such events much better than many European countries. He took the opportunity to refer to the delay for the start of the football final match in Paris on Saturday.
The Mayor also highlighted the fact that among athletes from 14 different countries, such as Austria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Britain and US, athletes from Ukraine also participated.
“We are lucky with our neighbors from Greece, with our neighbors from Italy, with Kosovo, with North Macedonia, with Montenegro because it is very important to have good neighbors and good neighborhood,” he said.
Tiranathlon is a joint organization of the Municipality of Tirana with the Embassy of Greece in Tirana, which with this activity closed the Greek Week in the capital
The first prize in the Sprint Triathlon (men) was won by Panagiotis Bitados, and for girls by Stefania Polychroniadis. Mr. Ognjen Stojanovic won first place in the Olympic Triathlon.
