TIRANA – It continues to worsen unchecked the health situation in Albania where the spread of the coronavirus has got out of control with a high increase of fatalities and infected people.
“During the last 24 hours, 420 tests were performed on suspected infected persons and 83 resulted to be positive. Meanwhile 4 patients lost their lives,” said an announcement of the health ministry on Sunday.
The geographical distribution of cases is as follows: 38 cases in Tirana, 12 in Berat, 6 in Durres, 4 cases each in Shkodra, Elbasan, Vlora, 3 cases each in Kruja and Kukes, 2 cases each in Ura Vajgurore and Përmet, 1 case each in Lezha, Mirdita, Gjirokastra, Bulqiza, Himara.
Currently 72 patients are hospitalized, 8 patients are in intensive care in serious condition and 4 of them are intubated in serious condition.
In the last 24 hours 65 citizens have been cured, bringing to 1946 the number of recovered patients since the outbreak of the epidemic.
In Albania there are currently 1,415 active people with COVID19, mainly in Tirana, Shkodra, Kruja, and Durres.
In an appeal launched to citizens on Sunday the Health Ministry said: “Please observe these three simple actions every day to join the efforts of doctors and nurses in order to defeat COVID19- Respect distance; Put on masks; Keep personal and collective hygiene; Respect the Rules. Keep Healthy!”
In the meantime from Monday, the work on the reopening of COVID 2 hospital – the hospital “Shefqet Ndroqi”, will start. This was reported by local media on Sunday. In its report Balkanweb said this latest decision comes after the increase in the number of cases of people affected by coronavirus in Albania. But the decision has not been made officially public by the health ministry yet.
The large number of hospitalizations, fatalities and the increasing number of young people with complications that are hospitalized are the reasons leading to the reopening of COVID-3.
Authorities and medical specialists admit with concern that they did not expect such a spread of the disease. /argumentum.al
