TIRANA, August 30 – Turkish citizen Faruk Fatih Ozer was arrested on Tuesday in an apartment in Himara, southern Albania, said the police, which published footage of the operation.
The High Court of Istanbul issued an arrest warrant in 2021 against the 28-year-old for the criminal offenses “Creating a criminal organization” and “Fraud with serious consequences”.
During the operation, together with the much-wanted citizen, 2 other citizens were detained, B. Sh., 36 years old, resident of Tirana and E. H., 37 years old, resident of Durrës, who were accompanied for further actions to clarify their position in relation to the person announced as wanted internationally, said the police announcement.
Laptops, mobile devices, bank cards, etc. were seized as material evidence.
Turkish citizen Ozer is accused by Turkey of defrauding the accounts of the crypto currency exchange Thodex. He escaped from Turkey on April 20, 2021 and since then he has been hiding in Albania in different apartments that he allegedly found with the help of an Albanian citizen, who was arrested together with him on Tuesday.
In a comment on social media on Tuesday the interior minister, Bledi Cuci said that the arrest of the Turkish citizen wanted by Interpol is another proof of the ever increasing efficiency of the Albanian criminal police. Cuci extended his congratulations to all officers who participated in the operation.
