TIRANA, August 25 – The government decided to postpone the stay for another 6 months for Afghan citizens who are still in the territory of Albania, said a decision made public on Thursday.
The government decided an addition to the decision no. 501, dated 25.8.2021, for granting temporary protection to Afghan citizens and stateless persons, with temporary or permanent residence in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and for the creation of the Task Force for managing the flow of international protection seekers.
“With the end of the period defined in point 2 of this decision, the stay of persons who are still in the territory of the Republic of Albania is postponed for another 6 (six) months,” said the government decision.
Seven ministries have been assigned the task to apply this decision. There is no exact number of the Afghans residing in Albania. Most of them are sheltered in Durres and Lezha. Most of them left Afghanistan being afraid of prosecution by the Taliban regime which took the power as the US and NATO forces abandoned that country after an unsuccessful two- decade war against Taliban forces.
