TIRANA – Albanian judicial system will resume its work on Monday, but non-urgent cases will keep pending, said a press statement released by the High Judicial Council (HJC) as quoted by local media on Sunday.
The High Judicial Council said in a press release that court hearings on administrative, civil and criminal cases of a non-urgent nature will continue to be suspended in all courts.
As it is understood from what the press release says the main priority of the performance of courts will continue to be cases of urgent nature. The HJC announces that a special commission has been set up which has been working intensively to frame, propose and oversee the implementation of a plan of action for the exercise of judicial services in the safest possible way during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The purpose of drafting the work plan is to gradually restore activity and judicial services, with the priority of protecting the safety of the public, judges and all other court employees, said the press release.
Albanian courts suspended their activity on March 25 this year with the exception of very urgent cases as the coronavirus pandemic was spreading across the country which plunged into lockdown a few days after.
Resumption of work in courts is part of an exit plan of the government in its effort to come out of the lockdown which has paralyzed most of economic, financial, social and cultural life in this Balkan country. /argumentum.al
