TIRANA – Albanian political forces will not make agreements of any kind through the mediation of internationals in the future, has said PM Edi Rama.
Rama made that comment at the meeting of the National Council for European Integration, which was held on Tuesday being attended by President Ilir Meta, Speaker Gramoz Ruci and key officials of political parties. Democratic Party (DP) led united opposition did not take part in the meeting.
“We can no longer hold dialogue and reach agreement at the embassy, this must be the last time and as far as I am personally concerned this is the last time,” noted Rama in a clear reference to meetings of Albanian politicians at the US Embassy in Tirana in the frame of the electoral reform agreement, which was sealed by them on June 5 this year.
Further on Rama said he could not understand why the communication among Albanian politicians should be held in several languages. He was firm in saying Albanian politics should resolve problems on its own.
Speaking at the meeting of the Head of the EU Delegation to Tirana, Ambassador Luigi Soreca said the EU will soon present the methodology of the negotiating framework and that in this process all parties must show strong will and cooperation. He stressed that the government had the main responsibility to lead the required changes to the electoral system.
Ambassador Soreca considered March 25, 2020 as a historical date for Albania when the decision on the opening of the accession talks with the EU was made. He announced that the EU would soon present the negotiating framework for Albania and set new rules of the game for EU membership. However he was reluctant to unveil any time frame.
In his first formal appearance Albania’s Chief Negotiator with EU Zef Mazi labeled it as historic moment for Albania the negotiations with EU while speaking at the meeting. He said that hard work was needed to face great challenges. He praised the negotiating team for its high professional expertise in issues related to integration process./argumentum.al
