TIRANA, September 1 – “I welcome the position of the Delegation of the European Union to Albania regarding the project of the Port of Durres and I share the same concerns, expressed earlier, regarding the need for transparency.”
This was the reaction of the Chairman of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta in a post on FB on Thursday related to the concern expressed by the EU Delegation to Tirana on the project in the Durres port, the largest in Albania. The Delegation said they are monitoring it and stressed that transparency is needed, while the companies should also compete on equal terms.
Meta, a former President, said Albania is in need of serious strategic investors. “Albania and Durrës need serious strategic investors and well-consulted decisions with citizens, civil society and experts, respecting the Constitution, state sovereignty over strategic infrastructure, competition principles, obligations stemming from the Stabilization-Association Agreement and the Berlin Process,” said Meta in his post.
In conclusion the FP Head Meta said: “Ignoring these very important obligations and principles of the functioning of a legal state, aiming for EU membership, means that the only interest of this corrupt and incriminated government is for another affair behind which is hidden a mega-theft and money laundering.”
