TIRANA – Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci has received the ‘brotherly’ support of Albania’s highest authorities like from his counterpart Ilir Meta and Prime Prime Minister Edi Rama whom he met separately on Friday.
“With the President of Kosovo, after a fraternal conversation as always,” Rama wrote on Twitter on Friday.
Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci said that “Kosovo and Albania have always been in each other’s arms and they must continue the path of Euro-Atlantic integration inseparable.”
Speaking after the meetings in Tirana, Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci said that “Today, with the President of Albania, Ilir Meta we discussed resuming normalcy for the citizens of our two countries.”
In a comment on the two governments’ resumption of cooperation, he said the sooner the better for the economies of the two countries.
Thaci said that dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia was a topic of discussion. “We also talked about the importance of re-launching the dialogue with Serbia. We expect to conclude all open issues with Serbia and bring about mutual interstate recognition,” said Kosovo head of state.
President Meta stressed the importance of continuing the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia on the final normalization of relations between the two countries, which would guarantee not only mutual recognition but also their future in the EU. “The coexistence of Albanians and Serbs is in the interest of peace, stability and the European perspective of the Western Balkans,” said Meta.
In an interview on TV Klan on Thursday evening Thaci spoke of a step up of the process of dialogue with Belgrade as Pristina has a new government but he could not speak of a set date. He was optimistic about the role of the US in the process saying the US is determined to close the problems in the Western Balkans.
Regarding the issue of the land swap he said that Serbia will recognize Kosovo within its current territorial sovereignty. /argumentum.al
