TIRANA, September 24 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke, among other things, about Dick Marti’s report and Iran’s cyber attack against Albania in his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday.
“As soon as the word Balkans is mentioned, the tainted images of human crimes, genocide in Srebrenica and human cleansing in Kosovo come to mind. Accountability must continue, but this requires commitment and determination to the ideals of justice and cooperation between the parties. Justice is served with facts, evidence and with data,” said Rama.
Dick Marty’s 2011 report presented to the Council of Europe, which adopted it, accuses the Kosovo army of trafficking in human organs.
“Not a single bit of evidence or indicator was found anywhere in Kosovo or any other country, and yet, the specialized justice chambers (in The Hague) have arrested (former President) Hashim Thaci without charge. He waited a year in prison until he was officially charged,” said Rama.
Thaci was being held without any official charge and not a single word of the indictment has anything to do with the report of the Council of Europe on the alleged crime of trafficking, which is a whole fantasy, a monumental failure at the international level, a tarnishing of a country, said Rama.
“We think the Assembly needs the truth and will accept Albania’s request to have a follow-up report as the damage is done. It (the report) would help restore the credibility of such an important organization,” said Rama.
In the meantime he referred to cyber attacks against Albania launched by Iran and called on the United Nations to focus on cyber security and to invest in the prevention of such attacks.
“Faced with such a flagrant violation of norms in a time of peace, the Albanian government had no choice but to cut off relations with Iran. We hope that this measure will be an example,” said Premier Rama. /Argumentum.al
