TIRANA – A petition calling for the reconstruction of Albania’s National Theater where it was and as it was has been signed by hundreds of protesters and citizens who participated in the second protest against the demolition of the building on Wednesday in Tirana. The petition was also signed by Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha and Socialist Movement for Integration chairwoman Monika Kryemadhi as well as other former deputies of these opposition political forces.
This was the second protest called by the Alliance for the Protection of the National Theater over demolition of the building which was joined by the opposition forces in a sign of rejection of what happened on Sunday morning.
Earlier before the start of the protest on Wednesday at 17.30 President Ilir Meta published a video showing the clashes between activists and State Police forces in the hours that followed the demolition of the National Theater building.
“Whoever remains silent and does not dare to condemn violence is an accomplice and instigator of it!” said Meta’s statement.
“This violence has only one name and one address! Whoever remains silent and does not dare to punish it, is its accomplice and instigator! Civic courage and solidarity! Democracy is not given, but protected and won! United to the end, with love for European Albania,” said Meta./ argumentum.al
