TIRANA – The resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama has been urged by Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI), an opposition party, whose Deputy Chairman Petrit Vasili held him responsible for the frightful rise of COVID-19 coronavirus infections across the country.
On Sunday alone Albania registered 57 new cases of people affected by the virus, which was considered worrisome even by local health authorities.
“The PM must resign and be criminally prosecuted for the criminal and inhumane management of the pandemic,” Vasili told the media on Sunday. According to him, after the crazy two and a half month- lockdown Rama’s “great success” is the increase by 211 percent of infected cases.
Vasili blamed the government head for carrying no tests and failure to buy protective equipment and aspirators. He also accused him of not closing high-risk economic activities.
Manufacturing workshops and call centers have become the most dangerous places of contamination in Albania where even workers complain over the risk posed by the disease but cannot speak publicly fearing to be fired.
“Today there were 57 cases with COVID-19. Edi Rama must resign immediately for the criminal and inhumane management of pandemic. Edi Rama acted against science with full will and in function of his personal political propaganda,” said the SMI number two in the harshest attack of the PM.
In addition Vasili, a former Health Minister, called on SPAK to immediately start a probe into Rama for what he called premeditated actions, which brought damage to human health.
At the peak of the pandemics the highest toll was 27 affected cases on April 3.
Moreover, SMI’s Vasili blamed the premier for not forcing the use of masks, but called them unnecessary and did not activate thousands of family doctors. He found also fault in the composition of a technical committee made up of ‘incompetent and politically oriented experts’.
Speaking live on Klan TV on Sunday, Eugena Tomini of the Institute of Public Health, which is one of the main government responsible bodies for managing the pandemic, did not hide the concern over what is happening regarding the spread of the virus. But, however, she blamed citizens as being mostly responsible for the latest increase of the number of the infections./ argumentum.al
