TIRANA – Preventive measures are being stepped up in Albania to contain the largest Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak worldwide with new restrictions being enforced some of which were announced by PM Edi Rama on Thursday as the number of the affected citizens amounted to 23, while a woman passed away last Wednesday.
“From Friday at 6 o’clock in the morning until Sunday midnight the movement of private and interurban vehicles to Tirana and Durres from other past of the country and vice versa will be halted,” said the premier, who added that starting from Friday at 6 am until Sunday midnight the circulation of private cars in Tirana and Durres will be halted. Likewise such restrictions will be applied in Shkodra, Lezha, Elbasan, Lushnja, Fier and Vlora. Only ambulances, state and cargo vehicles will be permitted to circulate, according to the new measures.
China was the first country to forcibly restrict the personal movements, public events, and business activities of its people – eleven million in Wuhan, the megacity and global epicenter of the covid-19 coronavirus. In Europe, Italy is the only country to have locked down the entire country as PM Giuseppe Conte called the Covid-19 outbreak as “a national emergency.”
On Thursday for the first time the PM’s warning was more alarming than before when he said: “This is a flu which can affect a huge number of us. 80 percent of each of us could have it (the virus). However even if we do not feel anything, it is up to all of us to protect the elderly and sick people around us because if we transmit it to them we have made them a ‘creeping present’ to them.”/argumentum.al
