TIRANA, August 31 – In a rare public confrontation with the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the US Embassy addressed words of praise to the former top police officer, Gledis Nano.
Nano was sacked because of non-fulfillment of the objectives set by the government regarding the General Director of Police and is mainly related to the situation created in recent months in Albania, said the Interior Minister on Wednesday.
But the US Embassy expressed its disagreement to the Albanian government decision saying that Gledis Nano was ‘a strong partner’ of the United States.
According to a post released on social media a few hours after the government announcement, the American Embassy said that Nano was a strong partner of the US and contributed against terrorism and as director of the Albanian State Police
“We express our appreciation to Gledis Nano, who was a strong partner of the US as director of the Albanian State Police and before that, as director of the Counter-Terrorism Office,” the embassy’s announcement on Twitter said.
When he was assigned to that post the US Embassy was quick to praise him and assure him of the US support. /Argumentum.al
