TIRANA, June 27 – Business has lost faith in Albania and the new draft law on Fiscal Amnesty prepared by the government has not responded to business concerns in this Balkan country.
This was the conclusion of the analysis made by the American Chamber of Commerce (ACC) at Monday’s conference where the annual analysis of the business climate in Albania was presented by Enio Jaço, President of the Chamber.
The American Chamber of Commerce issued 8 recommendations for improving the business climate ranging from the adoption of the anti-corruption package to public procurement procedures and efforts to avoid money laundering.
Elaborating on the fiscal amnesty draft law Jaço said they knew there was a recent draft that was introduced for the public consultation. “We want a little more time to fully analyze it. However, the current opinion is that the changes are not essential from the previous draft,” he said.
Further on, the ACC head said that the problem they had as a main principle has to do with the opportunity it creates for money laundering and tax evasion. “This is a problem that many international partners have,” said Jaço.
“If this law has received the support of international partners, structures such as the IMF, the EU and Moneyval, then we would also be supportive. Our concerns continue to be as before regarding this law. The other problem is that of unfair competition,” said ACC President.
Among other things, he said that the war in Ukraine has accelerated inflation, and he noted that North Macedonia is the best example in the region for investments.
