TIRANA – Four patients have lost their lives from COVID-19 while 124 new infected cases have been identified in the last 24 hours in Albania, said Dr. Marjeta Dervishi from the Institute of Public Health on Saturday.
“Currently 116 patients are being hospitalized with Covid19, and 19 others are in intensive therapy, while 4 of them are intubated at the Infectious Diseases and “Shefqet Ndroqi” hospitals in Tirana,” she said.
The geographical distribution of positive daily cases has the highest score in Tirana with 33 new infections.
COVID-19 statistics on 8 August 2020 are as follows: Total tests 45,381, positive cases 6,275, cured cases 3,268, active cases 2,814 and fatalities 193.
In the meantime, the SMI senior official, Edmond Panariti stated on Saturday that Albania will plunge into worse situation from the coronavirus in the fall, if the government does not take action now.
“By early October the government should provide at least 2,000 beds, as the virus already affects all ages and everyone is equally at risk,” he warned.
“There is a hypothesis for the second wave, but it is credible. It is enough to see what is happening in countries that have entered winter in southern hemisphere, where there’s a significant increase in the number of infected,” Panariti, a former Agriculture Minister, said.
According to him, this is evidence that Albania will also have a second wave in autumn and winter.
“The virus is out of control as it is being transmitted in a communal way and now we can not check it,” Panariti warned. /argumentum.al
