TIRANA, September 16 – “The world has changed and the security scene in the world has changed after the Russian attack and unjustified invasion in Ukraine. Geopolitics has changed and we are in the middle of a very fragile region, such as the Western Balkans. But Albania is the only country without internal political problems and without political and geopolitical dilemmas in the Western Balkans,” Defense Minister Niko Peleshi has said.
Peleshi made that comment at the commemorative ceremony of the 80th anniversary of the Peza Conference which was held in the village of Peza 15 km far from Tirana on Friday, being attended by local government officials, members of the Veterans Committee as well as residents of the area of Peza.
He appreciated the role of veterans and their descendants in keeping alive this day and the messages that the Peza Conference has conveyed over the years to the younger generation.
Further the Minister said Albania has lined up on the right side of history, which today gives the country a passport and moral right to enter the European Union with dignity alongside the progressive forces .
But, according to Peleshi, Albania is facing some risks that are not only potential risks, but are actual cyber attacks.
“We are oriented towards the west and we have a mission to play in all the Albanian lands even outside the ‘body’ of Albania to keep the Balkans towards the west,” said Peleshi.
On September 16, 1942, the representatives of all political forces of the country gathered at the Peza Conference and worked out the common platform of the National Liberation Anti-Fascist War.
But the left and the right-wing forces are still divided regarding the day when Albania was liberated from the Nazi occupation. According to Socialists, Albania was liberated on November 29, 1944 while Democrats say Liberation Day is November 28, 1944. Albania’s independence was proclaimed on November 28, 1912. /Argumentum.al
