TIRANA – When Albania is entering the sixth week of the coronavirus pandemic the opposition Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha has unveiled a 5-point plan for Albania to cope with the impact of the contagious disease which has kept the country in a total lockdown.
The first point of the plan made public on Sunday is the massive testing of the population a permanent request of the opposition which blames the government that it does not do that to hide the dimensions of the epidemic. According to him, the more citizens get tested the sooner virus’s spread can be restrained. Further on he saw training of medical staff as very important, and in this frame all those who are in the front line of the ‘fight’ should be trained to build and use local healthcare capacities.
Basha ranked as third point of his scheme support to healthcare, and according to him, all necessary tools must be provided to hospital staffs so that they can handle the influx of persons in need of healthcare treatment.
In reference to the restrictive measures he suggests that they should be measured by the government through knowing their impact on the people. Accordingly, he said, they can be tightened or loosened.
The fifth point has to do with the exit step- the transition towards the opening of the economy, which even in this case is linked with more tests to identify the sources of the spread of the virus. “The restart requires adaptation to the new reality,” said Basha who advised that citizens and businesses should learn to operate in the conditions of the 1.5 meter distance. “The sooner this new way is adapted the sooner the economy can restart work and isolation be loosened,” said the DP head. /argumentum.al
