TIRANA, August 25 – Deputy of Socialist Party (SP) Erion Braçe has said that wheat production should not be a problem for the farmer.
Braçe stated in a post on social networks on Thursday that such a thing happens because the current government does not help the farmer. He also listed some points on how wheat production can be increased in Albania.
According to him, the support policy for wheat production can be better. First of all, the surface area-the basic criterion for cash support, is not enough. “We need production – high yield, wheat quality in high protein, moisture and beam; So we need to support the performance not just the surface!” he said.
Secondly, Brace said that a large majority of farmers use the seed produced by themselves. They do not have invoices for what they produce themselves, so there is no reason to be excluded from financial support.
“Thirdly, wheat must be protected from natural disasters; it happened this year in Maliq that the hail severely damaged the wheat, we lost that crop; then we have to protect the production by support,” he said.
According to him, finally, the value added tax makes domestically produced wheat non-competitive compared to imported wheat.
Brace, a former deputy prime minister and critic of the government, thought that these four elements make support for wheat production more effective! “That’s why we have to change the way of support!” concluded Brace. /Argumentum.al
