TIRANA, August 17 – The head of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta, denounced the practices followed by the boards set up by the government to determine the price of fuel and food. The former President warned in a press conference on Wednesday that the political force he leads and the citizens will respond to the abuses of the majority of the Socialist Party, as well as accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of using criminal gangs to divert attention from successive scandals.
Former president Meta also commented on the visit of the head of state, Bajram Begaj to Kosovo, and in this frame he described the ‘Open Balkans’ as a project that hinders the integration of the countries of the region in the union. “This project is an initiative that aims to undermine the clear European perspective of our region,” said Meta.
According to Meta, the ‘Berlin Process’ is a very serious process that guarantees all those supposedly good intentions of the so-called Open Balkans and absolutely that Albania should focus on this process and of course strengthen relations with Serbia, but on the basis of partnership, not vassalage.
Regarding the issue of the sea with Greece, Ilir Meta said that there is evidence showing that Rama has caused extraordinary damage to Albania.
Asked about the results of the new president’s two-day visit to Kosovo, Meta said it did not seem ethical to him to comment on the positions or assessments of the new president as there was just a month that he left the presidential office. “He is independent and I believe fully responsible in every action he takes,” Meta said.
President Bajram Begaj said in an interview with RTK on Tuesday at the end of his visit to Pristina that he supported the ‘Open Balkans’ despite the fact that Kosovo rejects it and secondly, he could not back the Defense Treaty between Kosovo and Albania proposed by his counterpart Vjosa Osmani because, as he said, assemblies could deal with such matters.
Meta brought to the attention the letter that he had sent to the Assembly on the issue of the sea with Greece, and, according to him, it had the obligation to deal with the issue. He said that in the position that the new president has been put in due to insidious changes by the prime minister, it makes his reaction difficult.
“It is the duty of the parliament and any other type of institution to deal with this issue. It’s not the fault of (Aleksandar) Vucic that our citizens run away from the country, when he (Edi Rama) becomes his vassal,” said Meta.
