It is official that the Delta B.1.617.2 variant has affected Albania, has said the Ministry of Health in a statement informing on the findings of the Institute of Virology – Charité in Berlin, Germany, where the in-depth genetic analysis of genome sequencing was performed in some samples of virus infections in Albania.
Confirmation of the circulation of the Delta variant in Albania, suspected by laboratory signals and already confirmed by the Reference Laboratory in Berlin coincides with the increase of infections in this Balkan country in the last 2 weeks.
Ministry appeals to citizens to be vaccinated at the nearest vaccination center.
“Vaccination saves lives! Vaccines work, they reduce the chance of infection and largely avoid hospitalizations and fatalities,” the statement said.
The Delta variant of Sars-Cov2 infection is the most transmitted variant, so observance of physical distancing measures, wearing of masks indoors and hygiene are essential to limit the spread of the virus.
Currently in Albania 1,134,085 vaccinations have been performed of which 496,714 citizens have been vaccinated with both doses of anticovid vaccine. In the meantime it is reported that 4,078 tests were performed on Sunday and the results showed that 22 citzena were infected with Covid19.
