TIRANA, August 13 – In addition to shocking Albania, the killing of 7-year-old Jonada Avdia at Potami beach in Himara by police commissar Arjan Tase has left a void that will never be replaced to her parents and relatives.
With sorrow in his soul, Jonada’s grandfather gave his message thanking the Albanians for their support at these hard times as quoted by local media on Saturday. He appealed that what happened to his granddaughter should not be repeated and that no Albanian family should have to face such pain.
“I did not want to be one of those who convert the tragedy into a media show. I respected the codes of Gegëria (northern Albania) and my well-known tribe of the village of Berishe,” he said.
According to him, the dedication of the Albanians and their participation inside and outside the borders had been his family’s consolation. “I want to thank them infinitely and eternally for living with me this family tragedy, giving it national dimensions.”
The elderly expressed gratitude for the documentary being made. “Through it, let us exalt our dear Jonada as a memorial of the time of the monsters of power and that through the documentary we should say a message to the Albanians: – What happened to Jonada should never be repeated to any Albanian family. We respect the code of silence,” he said.
