Prime Minister Albin Kurti has given permission for the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) to enter Kosovo, a press release said on Thursday.
The Patriarch will be in Kosovo to celebrate Christmas which is observed by the SPC based on the Julian calendar. He was denied permission to enter Kosovo on December 26. The seat of the SPC Patriarch has been in a monastery in the Kosovo town of Pec since the middle ages.
His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije will go to the Patriarchate of Pec, Kosovo, to visit the clergy and the faithful people of the Raska-Prizren Diocese in accordance with his program and at his own discretion, which are not linked with any political context or any individual from political life, said the SPC.
The press release added that Patriarch Porfirije said he wants to visit Kosovo without any bodyguards. It said that he did not apply for permission as required under existing agreements. “Patriarch Porfirije’s statement that he plans to enter Kosovo without bodyguards is more proof that Kosovo is safer than Serbia,” it said.
