TIRANA, June 30 – “A political agreement has already been reached between the parties and the first Intergovernmental Conference will be held next week,” said the Chairman of the Socialist Party (SP) parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, who asked to take the floor “urgently” in Thursday’s plenary session of Parliament. “I asked for the floor to share important news regarding our journey towards EU membership. There is a full agreement between the 27 EU member states to hold the first Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the EU next week. It is an important moment, after several hours of communications of the parliamentse of the members. The Czech ambassador, with whom I had the opportunity to communicate, has just left. Political agreement has already been reached and the holding of the Intergovernmental Conference next week is a fact,” Balla said. According to him, the holding the first Intergovernmental Conference is the culmination of the successive contributions of many governments, but the current government has the irreplaceable merit in fulfilling all obligations.
“The obligations are not over, it is a long process, but now Albania will negotiate to join the EU. Next week is a solemn week regarding the responsibility that each of us has to work on the very important tasks that the Parliament has in this process. “Those who want to protest next week, do not have any problem with us, they have it with the Albanians,” said Balla.
Opposition has announced that a massive protest against the deterioration of the economic situation of the citizens in Albania will be held on July 7.
