TIRANA, November 26 – Local authorities and members of the Albanian Parliament commemorated the 110th anniversary of the raising of the independence flag in the capital on Saturday.
“The Independence flag was raised in Tirana by the patriots of Tirana. As today 110 years ago, when the Serbian forces were approaching Kruja, Durrës and Tirana, the patriots of Tirana honored the history of the future Albanian capital, joining the architect of independence, Ismail Qemal Bej Vlora, in the project that would later mark the day of the birth of the Albanian state,” said the chairman of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Taulant Balla.
He emphasized that on November 25, one day before the moment that would mark the raising of the flag, the city of Tirana was going through its most dramatic moments.
“The Serbian armies had managed to seize Kruja and eagerly wanted to seize Tirana as well. But, the patriots of Tirana changed the course of history as an extraordinary example of endurance and the desire for independence. The members of the Council of Tirana gathered immediately on November 26, 1912 to announce self-government,” said Balla. /Argumentum.al
