TIRANA, May 24 – As the two first rounds for the election of the President were held without any candidate in Parliament, the third round is set to be held on May 30 at a meeting of the Council of Chairmen on Tuesday.
The chairman of the socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla spoke to the media after the meeting saying that the majority is for all possible ways to elect the president, but with the exception of the formula proposed by Enkelejd Alibeaj according to which there should be signatures even of the socialist deputies in the proposal of the opposition candidate.
“There is another proposal to continue negotiations if we call them such. They must come with their names and we see the opportunity within their names to consider who meets the expectations. This is the issue I want to dwell on and say that we are for all possible ways with the sole exception of the formula proposed by Mr. Alibeaj, 4, 2, 1 which is not a negotiation, “said Balla
He said that the majority expects concrete proposals from the opposition, as, according to him, so far it has not received any official name. The deadline for submitting candidacies is set for May 29 at 16:00.
The Democrat MP Enkelejd Alibeaj stated in the meeting of the Chairmen that together the majority and the opposition must find a candidate and that candidate should be a joint proposal of the parties as proof that the process is serious. “It’s the same thing that happened in the process of electing the president in 2002,” he said. President Ilir Meta was elected by consensus in 2002.
“You have 71 stolen votes, but he will be the President of the stolen mandates. It will be a stalemate that will accompany you. Take time and think, “said Alibeaj.
In the meantime the head of the Republican Party Fatmir Mediu said there are only three ways. “Or sit down and propose to the parties. Each party must nominate its own candidate. Or find common candidates. The third way is to close this discussion here, and we take our responsibilities as the opposition. To continue to justify unilateral action is unacceptable,” Mediu said. /Argumentum.al
