TIRANA, November 16 – “Serbia is arming its citizens in the northern municipalities of Kosovo,” has declared Fatmir Sheholli from the Institute for the Affirmation of Inter-Ethnic Relations in an interview given to Syri.net Kosova on Wednesday. He pointed out that the security situation in the north of Kosovo has not been more tense since the war, not even in 2004. Sheholli said that the government’s decision has deepened tensions, moreover, there is also a lack of dialogue with the Serbian community.
He was of the opinion that Prime Minister Albin Kurti should listen to the recommendations proposed by the US and the European Union regarding the postponement of the deadline for the implementation of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia on license plates.
Asked how the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority should be created, based on the 2015 agreement or the new versions of the Franco-German plan, Sheholli said that this Association should be established only as provided for by the Constitution of Kosovo.
Kurti has been a target of attacks because of his scheme on car licence plates and opposition to the establishment of the Association as Serbs want it like an independent mechanism in the state of Kosovo more or less as the association of Serbs in Bosnia where it created Repulika Srpska.
The stance of Serbs in northern Kosovo is inspired by Belgrade which surprisingly has won the support of the EU and the US despite its stance in support of Russia. /Argumentum.al
