TIRANA, August 13 – The head of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta, has reacted to the situation that is currently happening at the border point of Kakavija with Greece, where there are long lines of immigrants waiting to come to Albania on summer vacations.
Through a message on “Facebook”, Meta called on the government and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs on Saturday to establish contact with the Greek side to guarantee the free movement of citizens.
“I urgently call on the Government and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to immediately establish contacts with the Greek side, to take all effective measures to facilitate and guarantee the free movement of citizens at the border crossing points,” said Meta, a former president of Albania.
According to him, the return of the long queues in Kakavija checkpoint is unacceptable, and therefore the responsible state authorities should immediately stop the holidays and take every appropriate and possible measure to never repeat the humanitarian crises in Kakavija, where thousands of Albanian immigrants and citizens, children and the elderly were left abandoned and in extremely difficult conditions.
“I also encourage the Greek authorities, respecting the spirit of good neighborliness and traditional close relations, to do everything to avoid unacceptable situations and humanitarian crises at the border crossing points, the images of which shame both our countries,” said Meta. /Argumentum.al
