TIRANA, October 9 – The chairman of the Democratic Party (DP) Sali Berisha spoke on Sunday at a conference organized by the DP for the local elections where the Swedish MPs of the sister party “Moderaterna” and of the “Hjarl Hjalmarson” foundation were also present. Berisha spoke about the difficult process that the Democratic Party of Albania went through as never before in these 30 years because “the hand of the government” was extended over the opposition.
Berisha said: “First of all, I want to gratefully thank our friends, representatives of the sister party of Sweden and the foundation for the valuable support in one of the most critical areas for the DP and in particular for the Democratic League and the structures of her. This support is very valuable because DP went through the most difficult process that can be described,” he said. Further Berisha admitted DP is in the third mandate in the opposition and this is absolutely not due to the merits of the government, but because of the weakness of the opposition, because Albania had and still has a government that can be summed up in two words: “Scandal based government.”
According to him, the hand of the Government harmed opposition as never before in these 30 years, and Albanians got the impression that PM Edi Rama is impossible to be defeated.
“I also think that the DP should exist because over 620,000 Albanians voted for it in the last elections. But what should exist had to be radically changed; a completely changed party should be presented to the Albanians, otherwise they have no reason to trust us,” said Berisha.
Berisha’s narrative holds water but DP continues to be talkative without action as autumn didn’t ‘overthow’ PM Rama as pledged by Berisha. Rather Rama gets stronger at international level.
September, according to Berisha, would have knelt down Rama but, as an analyst said on condition of anonymity, something keeps Berisha’s hands tied up. It’s not so much the US verdict of persona non grata rather than the feeling that a huge segment of the population has lost trust in all political parties.
DP is not confident if it can become trustful in the eyes of the grey zone which will always be the force that can change the balance in favor of Democrats. Otherwise SP’s victory is unchallenged
