TIRANA, September 1 – “The most important thing in life is to dare. The most difficult thing in life is to be afraid. But the smartest thing in the world is trying to be a moral person,” has said the General Director of the State Police, Gladis Nano quoting former Israeli PM Shimon Peres.
Nano carried that comment in a long ‘farewell’ letter after his dismissal by the government of PM Edi Rama on Wednesday amid a three-day enigma if he resigned or was fired. Interior Minister Bledi Cuci made the revelation that Nano was fired because of failure to carry out his tasks as top police officer in Albania. Nano stayed in office only 10 months although when he was introduced there was much euphoria highlighting his training in the US and his affinity with the US Ambassador, Yuri Kim.
Nano stressed in the letter that the personality cannot be built with the post, but it is important for everyone to close the temporary periods of life with honor.
Nano reminded once again that the police are facing challenges and phenomena just like the work of colleagues in developed countries.
“At this stage where the development and integration of the State Police has already entered, becoming a partner of the most well-known international law enforcement agencies, the police are facing and are in a continuous struggle with almost the same phenomena and challenges that police encounter in countries with a very consolidated performance and tradition,” Nano said, thanking his colleagues and international partners.
Gledis Nano was dismissed by the decision of the Council of Ministers on August 31, 2022, and the duties of the chief police have passed to deputy director Tonin Vocaj. /Argumentum.al
